According to reports from CCTV Finance, with the continuous development of new energy vehicles, the demand for ternary batteries, which are a type of power battery, is also increasing.
Nickel sulfate is one of the essential raw materials for manufacturing the positive electrode of ternary batteries. Last year, global nickel sulfate production was 230,000 tons, while China's nickel sulfate production was around 140,000 tons, accounting for about 60% of global production. IT Home learned that production personnel from factories indicated that the output of nickel products in 2018 and 2019 was not large; however, with the rapid development of the new energy industry starting in 2020, factory nickel output has shown a doubling or even several times increase.
Industry insiders explain that among the three metals in the ternary material system—nickel, cobalt, and manganese—an increase in nickel content will enhance battery range under equivalent conditions. Therefore, from a technological development perspective, high-nickel and low-cobalt will become a trend in the new energy vehicle industry. The development of high nickel content will also lead to a significant increase in nickel demand.
